Feeling sharp pain in my lower right leg, please help?

27 Apr

I’m overweight, and so I started going to the gym about a month ago. I go at least 4 times a week, for an hour each visit. Usually, I run on the treadmill for 15 minutes, then 30 minutes on the elliptical machine, and finally 15 minutes on the recumbent bike. Lately (around my third week attending the gym), I’ve started experiencing this dreadful pain in my lower right leg. It’s mostly in the inner leg (sometimes in the front), and I can feel the pain run down to the bottom of my foot. I’ve been ignoring it up until today, because the pain has really grasped my attention today more than ever. I can’t sit without fidgeting with my leg, that’s how much it hurts.

What can this be? What can I do to help it? Thanks in advance.

What can cause hip pain in young adults?

21 Apr

I’m a 36 year old woman who had gastric bypass a couple of months ago and have lost 70 pounds. Prior to surgery, I had some minor pain in my right hip at times but attributed it to weight. Since losing weight, my hip problem has been much worse. It locks up on me if I try to ride the recumbent bike or walk too long. I have pain both in the back of the hip (upper buttock area) and in the lower front of the hip close to my leg. I had a stiff hip as an infant but not sure if it was this same hip. I do have polyarthritis so I’m not sure if that could cause this type of pain.

What brand of bicycle sits you upright to reduce back and shoulder pain?

11 Apr

I saw an infomercial a while ago about a revolutionary new bicycle that allows the rider to sit almost completely upright thus greatly reducing back and shoulder pain when riding. Only now that I’m ready to buy a bike, I can’t remember that kind of bike. Anyone know?

What’s a good workout to avoid back pain. I weigh approximately 230 lbs.?

09 Apr

Even when I walk for a period of time the lower back pain from my mother’s apron is killing me. I want to work out, but often I stop due to the pain. Is there a particular exercise that I could do besides the recumbent bike. I’m just trying to find things that work and i was told that if I am in too much pain to stop working out.
My problem isn’t degenerating disk or injury. I will work out for 5 min and be totally exhausted. I try to work up my stamina but I haven’t been successful because after 5 min on treadmill walking my lower back is so painful that I have to stop my workout. How can I get passed this. I do swim when its warmer, but I need something else to do until I can resume swimming.
Also I cannot do anything neck or see a chiropractor because of previous brain surgery for chiari malformation.

This happened today after I did a little over 2 hour exercise on my stationary recumbent bike. Will the pain go away? I am very worried.

Best rehab for knee pain?

03 Mar

I have develeoped an annoying problem with my right knee. It feels like it’s right at the kneecap, and here’s the best way to describe how it affects me: If I’m at the gym and I try to use the machine where I have to sit with my legs bent at the knee and raise my lower legs up, the knee protests. If it’s the exact opposite situation where I start with the legs fully straight (parallel to the floor) and push downward, I have no discomfort whatsoever. I cannot do walking lunges, those are out of the question; that kind of “sudden-shock-loading” is the worst.

Obviously I have to see a doctor if it gets bad, but I can walk on an inclined treadmill fine, use a stationary recumbent bike like crazy and use an elliptical trainer (just a slight bit of discomfort on the elliptical for about 5-7 minutes)

Anyone have any informal advice/ideas on what’s going on in my knee and what I can do to rehab it?
