Is a heart rate of 182 after only 3 minutes of exercise normal?

22 Aug

I’m 17, 5′5″, 117 lbs. I went to the gym and did the elliptical, after 3 minutes the machine said my heart rate was 182 and it was telling me to slow down. I wasn’t exercising very hard at all. I play tennis and I’m always fine, but I don’t have much aerobic stamina for running long distances and such. Also, lately my heart is doing this weird popping thing like I have an air bubble in my chest cavity or something.

My heart pulse increases from 58-59 to 75-80 upon waking and standing, respectively. Is this normal?

06 May

I’ve been performing Dr. Coca’s Pulse Test on myself, but I’m not sure if whether or not I’m a candidate. My usual recumbent pulse upon waking is 58-59, and it jumps to 75-80 once I’m out of bed. How can I assess whether or not I’m having an allergic reaction to any of the foods I test when my pulse seems to abnormally jump so high? I’m 6′5″ and weigh 248 lbs. Is my allergen just the fact that I awake, period? LOL I don’t know. Can someone who’s more familiar with Dr. Coca’s Pulse Test and/or cardiology guide me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Merci very mucho!
I greatly appreciate everyone’s answer. I know it is very normal that the human heart’s pulse accelerate when one goes from the recumbent to the upright position. I guess I was more inquiring to audiences familiar with Dr.Coca’s Pulse Test.

SkepDoc2.0: Could you please elaborate your position with regards to Dr. Coca’s findings and test? Have you read his books? I find your answer, which is appreciated, somewhat hastened and seemingly uninformed about the aforementioned test. After all, this is considered alternative medicine, which doesn’t automatically deject it from being valid. I didn’t pay anything as it is freely available online.

PS: I think I’m allergic to corn and egg according to the test. This wouldn’t surprise me.

How much above my target heart rate is it safe to go?

01 May

I am a 64 year old woman who is obese and in terrible shape. In March, I had a heart stress test and found my heart is in good shape (Yay!) and the doctor told me to start walking. I have been doing that, but I have osteo arthritis in my knees and I find it very painful. Recently, a gym in my area offered a good deal that I can afford, and I started using a recumbent bike, which has a timer and a heart rate monitor, etc. My target heart rate is supposed to be 101, but I routinely go above that on the monitor. My average heart rate goes to about 110. I don’t feel overstressed, but I perspire and probably could not hold a lengthy conversation. My breaths stay deep and slow; I’m definitely not panting. Is this OK? Should I be doing more? I usually ride for seven miles (monitor), which takes about 18 minutes with the cool down. I will be starting weight training next week. Thank you for responding.

I am using an exercise bike, but my heart rate isn’t rising and not getting out of breath but legs hurt?

I am using an exercise bike, but my heart rate isn’t rising and not getting out of breath but legs hurt?
Am i doing it wrong?

I am cycling, not getting out of breath and not feeling my heart rate raise.

But my legs hurt a little, like the burn just after i stop for a little while, but am i doing it right?

And will i actually lose weight?

Will working in my ‘target heart rate range” for 15 minutes help me lose weight?

25 Apr

I have started riding my recumbent bike every day. I work up to my target range (80% of maximum heart rate) and then maintain that for fifteen minutes. I have only been doing this for two weeks. the first week I did it for ten minutes and I intend to work up to half an hour. Is this going to help? I am already getting discouraged. If I KNOW it will help I think I will be able to maintain it..Thanks for answering.

What heart rate is safe during pregnancy while exercising?

12 Apr

Before getting pregnant, I was a runner. I would run 3-4 times a week for about 3 miles at a time (or about 30-45 min). I’ve always been in pretty good shape. Now that I’m pregnant, I’m worried about my exercise routine. I have stopped running. So, instead I either swim laps, or recumbent bike (3-4 times a week). I only allow myself to exercise for 30 minutes at a time now. I also make myself stay at a moderate pace so that I don’t over-do it.

I have read that you shouldn’t let your heart rate get above 140. However, I have been tracking my heart rate while working out recently, and it gets up to about 153. And I’m hardly even breaking a sweat. Is this dangerous to do during pregnancy?? I have the energy to exercise longer/harder than I have been, but I want to make sure it’s not dangerous before I do so.

I’ll also be talking with my doctor about this later today…
