im not sure which i want i know elliptical is suppose to be better for losing weight but exercise bike is more affordable..i think the most i would want to spend is 350 are there any good reliable ellipticals in that price range if not what upright exercise bike for that price range is most reliable and good..im not sure what to look for in an elliptical for bikes i need a heart rate monitor pulse grip whatever you want to call it..would like to spend less if i could and i dont want used please help me out

I do a lot of long distance walking to lose weight – about 11 miles a day.

However, now that my weight is down to a decent level I want to build up my stamina. I can walk 11 miles without really noticing it now, but I tried to go jogging the other morning and managed to run for all of thirty seconds before I got out of breath.

So, being slightly better on the bike I thought I’d use that to try and improve my stamina and my fast twitch muscles (figure all of the walking has killed off the fast twitch in return for improving the slow twitch muscles)

What I’m looking for is a routine to use on my exercise bike to improve my stamina and strengthen my legs rather than a fat burning routine. I’ve read up a bit on using interval training but im not sure at what intensity i should be working out at, or for how long, or what constitutes a rest period.

Oh, heres my stats in case you need them:
Height – 6′3″
Weight – 90kg
Age – 26

I want to lose at least 20 pounds of fat by Jan 22-Jan 26. I have no equipment except for a schwinn 430 elliptical bike.And if i have to use the bike how many calories should i burn a day to loose 20 pounds by Jan 22-Jan 26?

Can you please give me some tips like incline or no incline or how long should i use the bike. If i do it everyday will that help at all? It seems i exercise for a half and hour and don’t burn many calories. I am just feeling so bloated lately which is making me feel so fat. Help!

I have a fuji newest 3.0 roadbike, aerobars a topeak bag and rack system, a 18 function bike tool, tire levers case of 12 cliff bars, 2 extra tubes, a go towel thing some clipless/platform pedals. (clipless one side, platform other side) and clipless shoes and a mandatory helmet. tents food and luggage are arraving at the camps by van.

I recently started using a recumbent exercise bike and I can go for 45-60 minutes at a time yet I don’t really sweat. Does this mean I’m not getting a good workout? When I use the elliptical for about 20 minutes I’m sweating and out of breath. Is there a reason for this? What should I do? THANKS!

Ever seen those things where the rider sits down and the pedals are in front, rather than below? I think I read somewhere that they are called recumbent bikes.

They look more expensive, harder to steer, harder to see, and harder to fit in your trunk. So why are they so commonly found on the road?

Maybe they are slightly more comfortable. Maybe it is easier on the knees. Maybe some guys are worried about sterility. But it seems like the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

It is a Starlet III, and has no rust what so ever. It is purple, has two paint chips, on the chain cover, and the name is fully intact. Has both front and rear fenders, and has 2 racks also. A black scwhinn seat, and purple schwinn approved handlebars. Any idea?

They are Smarty model. The noise seem to be coming from metal to metal contact. My old shimanos were silent. Also does anyone know what those thin plastic washers that come with them are for?

I normally jog on my treadmill for 20 mins and burned 128 calories. Yesterday, I bought the schwinn 430 elliptical machine and used it for 20 minutes. I noticed that the calories I burned is similar to the calories I burned on my treadmill, 128. I thought this is some kind of mistake, so what i did is I rest for a few minutes then use it again. I was surprised to see that I burned the exact same calories again. In my treadmill, I jog 3mph and elliptical my speed is like from 4-6. Do you think that my elliptical is not reading my calories right? My sister has a proform elliptical, I sometimes go to her house and use her elliptical for 20 minutes, I always burn 175 – 180 and that is why I decided to buy an elliptical because I thought it burns more calories than my treadmill. But, I guess not.. What seems to be the problem? I’m so disappointed…

By the way, I’m 5′4 and 115 lbs.
